Nobody, except perhaps ten year old girls, is going to see Transformers for the sex appeal of Shia LeBouf, Patrickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04702965396185870813noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6555488.post-86893321612932378412009-07-05T18:51:30.740-04:002009-07-05T18:51:30.740-04:00I've no problem with the (over)sexualization o...I've no problem with the (over)sexualization of female characters, _as long as the woman viewers are served, too_.

However, something tells me that in this case the Spirit probably won't be portrayed as , say, a tight piece of ass (sorry) existing only for the pleasure of women's eyes...Susannahnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6555488.post-19301738993733073592009-04-29T16:30:00.000-04:002009-04-29T16:30:00.000-04:00I don't think Whedon's feminism is necessarily con...I don't think Whedon's feminism is necessarily contradictory, but I think he falls prey to the same things that people criticize Frank Miller for, which is exactly that women-worship.

And, I'd argue that the fact that Whedon is viewed as such a feminist is a confluence of the fact that he talks about it so much in interviews, and that no one else even tries to do strong female Patrickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09483689490186954593noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6555488.post-76049527913467896622009-04-29T10:55:00.000-04:002009-04-29T10:55:00.000-04:00Also, just to add. Gender relations in Frank Miller are very peculiar and interesting. His women are heavily sexualized, and often need protection from the protagonist hero. But these male protagonists are always in thrall to the women they protect. They embody a perfection that men cannot possibly reach.
