The Third Age: Episode Three: 'Static' and More Self Promo

Sorry for not posting much substantive content in the past few weeks. I've got a bunch of Decade and Year wrap up stuff in the works, but for now, it's time for more about the projects I'm working on. First off, the third episode of The Third Age...

This is my favorite of the first three, and if you haven't checked it out at all yet, this is the perfect time to go back and watch from the start, since the first three form something of a unit.

Also, you can check out a writeup of the upcoming Grant Morrison: Talking with Gods on Wired. Enjoy some words from me, as well as a couple of exclusive clips of Grant speaking about our world vs. superhero worlds, and the George Bush administration. Exciting to see it getting so much publicity, it's always weird to see yourself turn up on the sites in your RSS feed.

What he says about the Bush administration is particularly relevant in light of the rapid deterioration of the Obama administration and his insanely misguided decision to send more troops to Afghanistan. We as a nation cannot have it all, we have to prioritize and it's sickening to watch people prioritize spending billions more on killing people in a futile war when we can't get a health care bill, or to go to war in service of 'freedom' with an army that doesn't allow openly gay people to serve for a country were gay people can't get married. Really strange stuff, and Obama is making no effort to be a leader and make a change happen. With this decision about Afghanistan, he's ensured that I'll be seeking out a third party candidate in the 2012 election.

Interesting third episode. I love Jerrod's story about his spiritual encounter and how it was revealed that there is a prior connection between Jerrod and the old man. I see that this time you don't open with a teaser and instead go straight to the opening credits. Are you going to continue doing that? Or is that sort of thing that's going to happen on-and-off? I thought the scene with Zinone's friend was a bit funny but I'm bit confused by the scene between Morning and Zinone. Is Morning rubbing her cheek against Zinone's or is she whispering something in her ear?

The pre-credits scene is going to be on and off, for the next few episodes there isn't going to be one, but it'll come back later on. It all depends on what the episode is going for.

And, as for your question about Morning/Zinone, it could be either one, up to you to read the scene, for now at least.

I thought for a minute there that she was licking his head, because it seemed like something a Grant Morrison fanboy would think of to have her do.

This was the best episode so far, with enough humor to balance out the more portentous stuff. There are a few really good shots in there, too, especially the repeated one of Morning pressed up against the TV screen.

Awesome, glad to hear you're keeping up. I definitely wanted to throw a bit of humor in, since the rest of the episode is pretty heavy. Having her lick him would have been a great idea, I modeled what she did after what cats do to things they like, so the lick would only have enhanced that. Perhaps in a future episode!

Hey Patrick, since you are doing your own show and after reading a number of your insightful reviews, I was wondering if I can hear your thoughts on a TV idea of mine because I'm wondering if it could work as a TV show or a comic book series or a book series. My email address is suncore598@yahoo.com.

I would agree with the first poster. Funnies are very welcome in a story with a visual style as weird and arty as this. And the funnies were funny! More please!

This isn't something I would normally go in for (give me pulp over Lynch/Malick/Kar-wai any day), but I'm intrigued enough to stick around...

There's definitely more comedy as it goes along, but a lot of it is in a more surreal dark vein than here. But, hopefully still funny! Have you had a chance to check out the last three episodes yet?
