The Third Age: Episode One Now Live

The webseries I've been working on for a while is finally live! Check out Episode One of The Third Age, embedded below.

The show has been called "An acid trip in web video form" by Tubefilter, so give it a look, and let me know what you think!

Color me intrigued, as I am by most things ambitious and mind-expanding that are executed relatively well. It's already established, for me at least, a specific tone that can accommodate the wackiness of the first scene and the somewhat more quotidian material that follows without there being too much of a disconnect between them. The DV here faintly recalls INLAND EMPIRE, and the opening gives me a vibe that's somewhere between Kenneth Anger and Shinya Tsukamoto. Aspects of it are certainly imperfect, which will tend to be the case on a low budget production unless the director is Robert fucking Bresson or somebody, but it's definitely promising.

Also, please tell me you're going to have the B&W footage of the old man over the credits of every episode. That's a really compelling image.

Thanks, INLAND EMPIRE was definitely an influence, and I think is still the best use of DV of all time, so that's a big compliment. Definitely stay tuned for the next batch of episodes.

And, I only used that end credits footage on the first one, each episode has something different under the end credits, specific to the episode. Most of them are an excuse to do a little bit of avant garde image making that reflects the episode in some way. But, that black and white footage will be back in the context of a later episode, so be on the lookout.

Great first episode. The opening was bizarre and very interesting. I love the Zinone character, how human he was, and the actor playing him. You can tell he's grown tired of the same-old routine of his "profession" day in, day out before he said it. And the scene when he and Morning meet for the first time reminds of that scene in the first episode of True Blood when Bill and Sookie lay eyes on each other for the first time. You can sense the beginning of a powerful connection between them.

Hi,

This is Mike's friend Sri again, the Battlestar fan. I'll definitely check this out when I get home, but I was looking for your thoughts on AMC's remake of The Prisoner. Maybe I just couldn't find it, but if you haven't watched it, I think you should. I didn't love it, but I found it to be very philosophical in terms of illustrating how we all struggle with our own demons and relative inner pain. That is very basic and it goes much deeper, but I think you should check it out. It replays Sunday, Monday and Tuesday during 3 2 hour segments.

Hey Sri,

Good to hear from you, man. I'm definitely going to write up the AMC Prisoner, I've got it on DVR, just haven't had a chance to watch it yet. Hopefully this weekend I'll be able to check it out. I've heard mixed things, but the negative reviews make it sound like something I'd want to watch even more.

As for The Third Age, definitely check it out. Judging by your tag here, I'm guessing you were in his band, so definitely stick around for Episode 2, you should get a nice surprise there!
